In
last
month's issue
of this newsletter, I talked about the importance
of looking beyond what
is into what could
be...the importance of having a
personal vision. A personal vision is important
because it lends purpose and meaning to your life
and provides a direction in which to head. A
personal vision establishes what you value
most and how you can best be of service to
yourself and others.
This month, let's talk about
what steps you can begin to take now to achieve
your personal vision, as well as discuss the
stumbling blocks that could potentially
interfere with your
progress. | |

What makes this process so
difficult?
Beliefs:
I believe that I was taught to suppress my
own wants and desires. That makes it
difficult to think about my own vision becoming a
reality. As I've been traveling around the
country, I've found that people think they have
lost their dreams. What I've discovered is they've
lost the belief they can make their vision come
true.
Our school system rewards those who conform
to the educational standards that our society
sets. However, when I was growing up in
school, I did not value the strict standards and
structure of the education system. I was
curious and had questions; however, some of the
questions were not in line with the topic being
taught, so I learned not to ask questions. I
also didn't always understand how rote learning
would benefit my dream life. I learned to keep my
vision and dreams hidden.
Too Many
Options:
A friend of mine, whom I'll
call Sam, is extremely talented. Recently, I
was in a study group with him and someone pointed
out that life for Sam is like "Let's Make A Deal,"
except that instead of 3 doors to choose from
there are 17 doors, and each one holds a
winner. With so many choices, Sam has had
trouble choosing which door to open and what to do
next with his talents. Instead of focusing on one
vision, Sam continues to struggle with creating a
powerful vision for his extremely talented
life.
Perhaps you're faced with many options as
well? The following vision exercise
can help you choose one thing to
pursue and then, once that race has been
run, you can choose another door to
open! |

What can you do to achieve your
vision?
-
Once
you've established a vision for what you want to
accomplish, don't keep it a
secret! Share your vision with others.
- Review
your vision at least once a week.
Take action.
- Find
someone to share your progress and success
with.
- Find
someone who will encourage you to move forward
if you run into
obstacles.
