Vision by Denny Stockdale
Valuable Insights Seeking Inspirational Opportunities Now

As I look out over our land, I can see what is in front of me.  If I am in a small room in a house or office building,  I can see the walls in that room.  What I cannot see is beyond the walls... the rest of the building, the yard outside, the buildings that surround the one I am in.

Life is often like that - where I can only see what is immediately around me.  I cannot see outside of my immediate situation.  I cannot imagine what it would be like beyond the walls and limits that I confine myself to.

If only I could see past the current moment - past the limitations that I have imposed upon myself - what would I see?

How can I dare to think that I could have a vision for myself?  Of what I could become, of how I could serve the world?

We all have dreams - things we'd like to do with our lives. Often we bury those dreams because of lessons we've learned over the years.

Think about the dreams you've lost and how you might recapture them.

There are likely things you might teach me that I'd love to learn; lessons deep inside of you just waiting to get out. There might be a few things that I have to teach you along the way as well. One of my passions is to help others capture the vision for their lives.

Why is a vision important?  Because it gives purpose and meaning to your life and a direction in which to head. A personal vision establishes what you most value and how you can most be of service to yourself and others.

What is a vision?  Vision is looking beyond what is into what could be

What can you do to set a vision?
You can look at your past from where you are right now, or you can look ahead at where you are going, using your gift of imagination and creativity to design where you want to lead your life.

Steps to establish a vision:
  1. Use your imagination to think about how you really want your life to be.  What would you really, really, really like to do this year?  There are many possibilities, it's up to you to make the choices that will shape your life this year.
  2. Look forward at various points through your life: where you are, what you are doing, who you are with.
  3. Think of what you really, really want.  Create something in your life that you've not created before.
  4. See yourself with all the rewards of accomplishing your purpose.

Vision Exercises
Let your imagination run wild!

Let your imagination run wild for a moment.  Think forward a few months...what do you want your life to look like? Be as descriptive as possible.

Past - Look Back
  • How do you feel about who you are today and who you have been over the last few months?
  • What difference has your life made?
  • Who has your life impacted?
  • Who has impacted your life?
  • What would you like to have done differently?
  • What character traits have been most important to you?
  • What's been your one big accomplishment?
Present - Consider Today
  • What actions can you take today to make a difference in your life and the world around you?
  • What will happen if you continue to do the same things you've always done?
  • If you don't follow your dream, what might the world lose?
Future - Look Ahead
  • What is your hoped-for next biggest accomplishment?
  • What will people say about you and who you have become?
